EN13432 compostability standard - testing criteria

This wheelie bin liner conforms to the compostable packaging standard EN13432 and the strict testing criteria which apply to the standard.

This means that at least 90% of the bag's material must disintegrate into tiny pieces - small enough to fit through a 2mm x 2mm mesh - within 12 weeks in industrial composting conditions.

At least 90% of the material must then biodegrades into natural elements - CO2, water and biomass - within six months.

Finally, the material must adhere to strict limits for toxic elements and must not negatively affect the quality of any compost to which it is added.

To best maintain the quality of this compostable product, please store in its original packaging in a cool, dry place and away from direct sources of heat, sunlight or moisture. Use within 12 months.

Strong clear compostable small wheelie bin liner - disposal options

These bags will rapidly break down in industrial composting conditions (as per EN13432), so they are designed to line a small wheelie bin used for organic or food waste, where they can be left for collection (you may wish to tie a knot in the top).

The bags can also be composted at home, although space for bag and contents is likely to be an issue for most home composters. Also, home composting will take longer and does not meet the rapid biodegradation timescale of EN13432.

Please note these bags are not suitable for recycling so, if composting is not an option, please dispose of them in your regular waste.
