EN13432 industrial composting standard - testing criteria

This wheelie bin liner conforms to industrial composting standard EN13432. This means that 90% of its material must disintegrate - into 2mm x 2mm pieces or smaller - within 12 weeks.

At least 90% of the material must then biodegrade into natural elements - carbon dioxide (CO2), water and biomass - within six months.

The material must also adhere to strict limits for toxic elements, whilst it must not negatively affect the quality of any compost to which it is added.

Compostable wheelie bin liners should be kept in a cool, dry place, away from direct sources of heat, moisture and sunlight to best maintain product quality. Please store in their original packaging and use within 12 months.

Clear compostable small wheelie bin liner - disposal options

These wheelie bin liners will fully break down in industrial composting units (see EN13432) so can be left in your food/organic waste bin for collection, along with their contents. You may wish to tie a knot in the top.

They can also be composted at home in theory, although most home composters will not have the capacity for a full bag. Also, please note the home composting process will take much longer than industrial composting (and does not meet EN13432 timescales).

If composting is not an option, please dispose of these bags in your regular domestic waste. They are not suitable for recycling.
