EN13432 - the compostable standard
This bag conforms to compostable standard EN13432, which means it meets the following criteria (in industrial composting conditions):
- It must disintegrate sufficiently so that, after 12 weeks, at least 90% of material passes through a 2x2mm mesh.
- At least 90% of the bag must biodegrade (into CO2, water and biomass) within six months.
- The material must meet strict safety limits for fluoride and 10 heavy metals (toxic elements) and must not negatively affect the quality of the compost to which it is added.
How to store compostable vest carriers
To maintain the quality of these compostable carriers, please store them in their original packaging, in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or sources of heat. Use within 12 months.
Compostable vest carriers - end of life options
This compostable bag offers a secondary use as a bin liner for a food bin, organic waste bin or kitchen caddy.
After this, it can be disposed of, with its contents, in your food waste collection. From here, it will be sent for processing at an industrial composting facility, where it will break down within 12 weeks.
This bag can also be disposed of in a domestic composting unit. However, this process will take longer than 12 weeks (timescale will vary according to composting conditions).
Please note: Not suitable for regular (non-organic) recycling, so please place in your regular waste collection if composting is not available.
